I recently attended The Asian American Foundation’s “Beyond The Surface” mental health summit in San Francisco. The purpose of the summit was to better understand mental health among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander youth.

Hudson’s Experience at the TAAF AAPI Youth Mental Health Summit
On Saturday, November 8th, I was lucky enough to be invited to the TAAF Mental Health Summit at the Commonwealth club in San Francisco. There, we listened to many community leaders about how they have seen mental health impact their communities and also about studies that they have conducted. The project that was closest to me was the BOBA project.
Creating Space x TAAF: Tending to the Child Within
November 12, 2025 | On November 4, at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, AYR attended “Tending to the Child Within,” an interactive community event dedicated to exploring the childhood experiences that continue to shape who we are today. The afternoon opened with a panel discussion led by Creating Space’s Chief Wellness Officer, renowned psychologist and author Dr. Jenny T. Wang, Ph.D. (@asiansformentalhealth).
TAAF AAPI Youth Mental Health Summit
November 10, 2025 | This incredible summit hosted by The Asian American Foundation brought together community leaders, educators, funders, and mental health experts to confront the urgent challenges facing AAPI youth. Informed by TAAF’s 2024 Beyond the Surface report, the summit spotlighted community-led solutions to the AAPI youth mental health crisis.

Reclaiming Representation: Asian American Voices
When you hear the word “Asian,” what careers do you think of? Doctor. Engineer. Coder. But rarely do you hear: Artist. Filmmaker. Writer. Historian. The things that confine our Asian identities have often been shaped by stereotypes like the model minority myth, and these stereotypes encourage a narrow lens which portrays success most often through STEM-related achievements or careers.

March 20, 2025 | AYR had the privilege of being part of an upcoming documentary, “Making Waves: The Rise of Asian America.” Directed and produced by Josh Chuck and Jon Osaka, this documentary dives into Asian American activism throughout history and the fight to incorporate our histories into curriculums nationwide.
Equity in Mental Health Symposium
October 22, 2024 | On October 16, 2024, Taryn and Johann presented at the third annual Equity in Mental Health Symposium at the College of Marin. They shared about AAPI Youth Rising’s history, goals and accomplishments, including our advocacy in the realm of mental health.
A Celebration of Team USA at the White House
October 11, 2024 | AAPI Youth Rising was humbled to be invited by President Biden to the White House in honoring and cheering on our nation’s athletes at A Celebration of Team USA. On September 30, 2024, several AYR representatives gathered with other invitees on the South Lawn of the White House to meet members of Team USA from this past summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
