United We Stand

It’s important now more than ever to stand united against hate-fueled violence in America. Did you know that youth are involved as victims and as perpetrators in hate crimes and identity-based bullying incidents?

  • Approximately 15 percent of the people known to have committed hate crimes in 2019 were younger than age 18, according to the FBI. (U.S. Department of Justice)
  • Youth who experience bias-based victimization are more likely to report a high-severe emotional impact.
  • In 2021, more than 1 in 5 students seriously considered attempting suicide. (Centers for Disease Control)
  • Suicide was the leading cause of death for Asian/Pacific Islanders, ages 15 to 24, in 2019. (SAMHSA)

America continues to face disturbing hate-motivated attacks on our communities. When we don’t feel safe walking in our own neighborhoods, when we’re bullied over social media, or we’re targeted at houses of worship, our democracy is at risk. Something needs to change.

Youth in America can make a difference by taking one small action at a time. As the only national organization founded by middle school AAPI youth dedicated to combating the rise in hate-fueled violence in America, AAPI Youth Rising believes in the power of one, the power of education, and the power of uniting together.

“United We Stand” – The Youth Summit 2024

Mina at the United We Stand Summit 2022

Mina was named as one of 16 civilian “Uniters” by President Biden at the “United We Stand Summit.” If you missed the “United We Stand” summit , you can stream it here.

As the only youth “Uniter,” Mina believes it is important to bring the voices of youth to the table.

We launch the “United We Stand” – The Youth Summit in 2024 with the original 16 “Uniters” at the “Uniters Re-Convening” in Baltimore, MD. We invite you to be a part.

Share your story about how you stand up to hate – it can be a moment in school, a project you created, how you overcame hate – join us. We are seeking stories RIGHT NOW to be included at the summit. Email info@aapiyouthrising.org.

We also believe that no one working against hate in their communities should be constricted by a lack of resources. We’re excited to launch a “United We Stand” scholarship for students dedicated to uniting against hate – these students will join us in the spring of 2024 for the “United We Stand” – The Youth Summit. Stay tuned for details on how to apply!
