AYR + CAvsHate: California Civil Rights Department PRESS RELEASE (September 17, 2025) AYR is a grant-funded partner organization of the California Civil Rights Department for CAvsHate.org, California’s first non-emergency hate reporting hotline. New data from CA vs Hate shows that people all across California are reporting hate and getting support! In our state, you’re not alone. In 2024, the hotline got nearly 1,200 reports of hate. We’re proud to be a partner and provide support. Check out the Partner Press Release here.

Mina joins CA Attorney General Rob Bonta, Assemblymember Mike Fong, Senator Scott Wiener and other community leaders on why the hotline is important:

“Young people face bullying in schools, fear of school shootings, fear for immigrant communities and our families, and a mental health crisis impacting Asian American youth, unlike one we’ve ever seen. During this time of increased violence and political extremism, it is all the more important that young people have a place to report through CAvsHate.org. We need culturally responsive resources supporting us, guiding us, and helping us feel empowered to stand up to hate-fueled violence so that we have the future we deserve.”

CA vs. Hate Hotline (September 17, 2025): The California Civil Rights Department (CRD) today released new statistics demonstrating ongoing demand for support and resources through California vs Hate, the state’s first-ever multilingual statewide hotline and online portal that provides a safe, anonymous reporting option for victims and witnesses of hate. In 2024, CA vs Hate received nearly 1,200 reports of hate across nearly 50 different counties.

Letter to Congress: Do Not Reinstate the China Initiative (July 23, 2025) AYR joins Stop AAPI Hate and partner organizations urging members to strike language directing the Department of Justice (DOJ) to effectively reinstate the National Security Division (NSD)’s “China Initiative” in the Joint Explanatory Statement (JES). This problematic language would direct the DOJ’s National Security Division to reestablish an office dedicated to countering espionage and influence efforts against perceived threats from the PRC. In reality, this JES provision would target scholars, scientists, and academics with any perceived connections with China. We urge our leaders to remove this section and oppose any reinstatement of the “China Initiative” or any iterations.
