On September 27, 2024, members of the AYR Leadership Team were invited by Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii on a private tour of the Capitol building followed by lunch in her office Highlights of the Capitol building tour included visiting the Rotunda, stepping inside the old Supreme Court Chamber, and even taking a ride on the Capitol’s own underground subway. After spending the morning learning some US history and touring one of the most iconic buildings in our nation’s capital, the AYR team sat down for an intimate lunch with Senator Hirono. Senator Hirono is the first elected female senator from Hawaii and the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate. She was sworn in on January 3, 2013 by then-Vice President Joe Biden, and she was the only person of Asian descent serving in the U.S. Senate from 2013-2017. Inspiring and kind, Senator Hirono spent time talking with each member of the AYR team and discussing issues such as bullying, gun violence, and our personal passions. Thank you Senator Hirono for a very special day that we will never forget!
