United Against Hate Week is a call for local civic action to stop the hate, discrimination, and implicit biases that negatively impact our diverse communities, neighborhoods, and cities. Alongside California vs Hate, residents, community organizations, and government agencies from across the state will band together and take action to stop the hate that threatens our state.

Teachers Workshop on Asian American Identity

August 26, 2024 | We’re excited to share that the 1990 Institute is hosting an upcoming Teachers Workshop focused on the impact of immigration on the Asian American community, and we would love your help in spreading the word.  This will be our last workshop on Asian Americans in 2024.  

This workshop is designed to provide educators with valuable insights into Asian American identity, exploring the historical context of immigration and its lasting effects on culture and identity across generations. Our goal is to equip teachers with the knowledge and resources they need to enrich their classrooms and foster a deeper understanding of Asian American experiences.

The Power of Youth Voices: Giving Testimony at the WHAANHPI Mental Health Convening

Walking on the sidewalks of Washington D.C., I glanced around my surroundings, taking in some of the most notable symbols of the United States. But my mind was elsewhere, reciting a string of words over and over again. My nerves were through the roof as I stood in the security clearance line, making small talk with my fellow organization members as I attempted to squash the worries in my mind. I was on the White House campus, present to represent not just AAPI Youth Rising, but the entire Asian-American youth community and their mental health needs.
