Young Asian Girl in her World
By Gabriella Drake | My art is about connecting my childhood with vibrant colors that have since dulled in my memory. This piece illustrates a young Asian girl and her look alike doll enjoying tea from a toy cup. Growing up in an American household, I didn’t understand that tea was part of Asian culture, but a party drink that calls for speaking in British accents and raising our pinkies. Revisiting this memory with the knowledge of my birth culture, allowing me to add new life to my childhood. My connection and acceptance of my past has been a long journey, one that I proudly document through my art.
