May marks Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! This month, we celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of AANHPI communities. We and the California Civil Rights Department recognize the continued challenges many of our communities face due to racism, xenophobia, religious intolerance, and discrimination. California vs Hate remains committed to standing against hate in all its forms, inviting everyone to take action, build unity, and create a California where all communities feel safe, seen, and supported.
Here are some ways to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month from California vs Hate: visit an AANHPI museum or cultural center, such as the Oakland Asian Cultural Center and the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles; attend an AANHPI Heritage Month community event or celebration; or come to one of the AANHPI Heritage Month events across California below.
- Thursday, 5/8: AANHPI Heritage Month Celebration & Panel, hosted by Asian Business Association San Diego
- Friday, 5/9: Rooted & Rising: AAPI Heritage, Entrepreneurship, and Mental Health, hosted by ASIAN, Inc.
- Saturday, 5/24: San Diego Asian Pacific Cultural Festival
