On Thursday, September 26th, Delaware Governor John Carney signed Make Us Visible DE’s SB 297, which requires the inclusion of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history as well as other racial, ethnic, and cultural histories in Delaware’s K-12 classrooms, into law. SB 297 passed both the House and Senate unanimously and had bipartisan co-sponsorship (led by Senate Majority Leader Bryan Townsend and House Member Sophie Phillips). AAPIs currently make up 3.63% of the electorate in Delaware.
This vital initiative highlights the common heritage of all Americans and fosters pride in our diverse backgrounds, experiences, and narratives. Effectively implementing this measure will be a key component of a larger strategy to address anti-Asian American bias, bullying, hate, and violence.
