1990 Institute Teacher Workshop on U.S.-China Relations
June 1, 2024 | AYR is a proud sponsor of the 1990 Institute‘s second 2024 teachers workshop, “U.S.-China Relations: Untangling Campaign Rhetoric & Understanding Policy”! This workshop is designed to meet the needs of middle and high school educators who wish to deepen their understanding of US-China relations, distinguish between political rhetoric and actual policies, and integrate this knowledge into their teaching. Attendees will enhance their ability to promote critical thinking, understand policy implications, expand their knowledge of U.S.-China relations, and build media literacy. The workshop is open to middle and high school teachers, as well as all lifelong learners. This is an important subject not only during the election cycle but also to understand from a global perspective.
Participate in Chinese American Resilience Study
May 31, 2024 | A UC Berkeley graduate student is contributing to the Chinese American Resilience Study. Broadly, the goal is to provide schools and communities with information about the unique challenges and needs of Chinese American adolescents. Those who participate can get a $15 Amazon gift card for the survey and an additional $30 Amazon gift card if selected for the interview.

CA vs Hate’s 1st Anniversary
May 25, 2024 | Speak up for your friends, classmates and yourself by reporting hate. Call 833-8-NO-HATE to report or visit CAvsHate.org. We’re stronger together. CAvsHate.org is California’s first statewide reporting hotline for victims of hate incidents and crimes. AAPI Youth Rising provided feedback throughout the year to the California Civil Rights Department as a community partner organization.
Act to Change’s 6th Annual Day Against Bullying
May 24, 2024 | Huge shout out to all the honorees at Act to Change’s 6th Annual Day Against Bullying! And special shout out to Act to Change’s Youth Ambassadors who spoke on the YA Panel! AAPI Youth Rising’s Legislative Committee Lead Matthew Sugiyama joined the panel alongside amazing youth leaders. We got to present to Allied Organization of the Year, California Civil Rights Department and CAvsHate.org. Photos for that tomorrow! And we got to hear Gordon Cormiere’s Keynote! Avatar in real life!
White House AANHPI celebration 2024
May 22, 2024 | Earlier this week, the White House and the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) organized a big celebration of AANHPI heritage month and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of WHIAANHPI. There were leaders from five presidential administrations coming together to commemorate this milestone and reflect on the progress made by AANHPI communities over the past quarter-century. We’re honored to be included in the White House’s 2024 AANHPI celebration! You can stream the entire program here.

May 20, 2024 | Max and Mina attended the White House AANHPI regional pot-luck on May 13th. The network had representatives from the following groups: AAPI Youth Rising; Bayanihan Community Center; Bishop (Bill Sorro Housing Program); Canon Kip Senior Center; the City of Fremont; HomeKey PH; Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA-APA Advocates); Pacific Community Development; Philippine Consulate General; Sage Strategies; SALT; and SFCAUSE. We also got to meet the co-leads for the White House Initiative on AANHPI for Region 9 Nor Cal.
