The Facts About Monkeypox

By Anna, Editor in Chief & Creative Corner Co-Director

The CDC explicitly says that monkeypox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, including, direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox, touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox, or contact with respiratory secretions. It’s not in any way a “gay disease”. We’re doing the same thing we did with monkeypox that we did with AIDS. Media is trying to stigmatize being queer. If you search ‘monkeypox’ on Google, one of the first results would be a Daily Mail article titled “US records first two CHILD monkeypox cases: California toddler and an infant in D.C. were likely infected by ‘household contacts’ and both had contact with gay or bisexual men, CDC chief says”.  Monkeypox is a huge issue for our public health and it can affect anyone.
